Description

When I began writing this book I had suffered a major setback in my personal life and I was trying to create a map to work my way through a maze.

The sense that I had already hit absolute rock bottom could not stop me thinking that someone or something would visit meaning to, and reprieve from my state of absolute despondence till I fell even further! I fell further than bottom, so that I wasn't in the abyss the abyss was within. I fell so far and kept falling so that even the colour of dawn was a source of pain. Then I lost the one person who had always helped me find purpose and meaning in the chaos. I lost my dad at a time when I hadn't made enough sense of how unhappy I was to even unpack it all and ask for help. At a time when I thought I deserved a break, I lost the one person that knew how to cut through the mundanity of constantly seeking and valiantly questioning, in a life that answers the routine failure to ask the right questions with pain. I was in a space where nothing seemed to work till I dug deep enough to remember what he had been trying to teach me.

My dad always said if you want to be consistently hopeful and happy then learn how to encourage someone to be hopeful and happy, while acting hopeful and happy. If you want to be expediently hopeful and happy then just focus on yourself, but you will still pay universe tax alone. Universe tax is the price you pay for actively moving and changing without positively impacting on the happiness of others. People think that success means that they are happy, but pain has more colours than the colours that pass through the clearest prism. If you seek to always be hopeful and useful then you must always seek the wisdom and compassion of those who choose to be of service to a greater cause than themselves, and those who choose by example to impart knowledge which builds character, and makes one socially responsible and useful to society. The answers I sought had been before me all along, for he had been teaching me to be my best possible companion. It took some time trying and failing for me to remember that he had also always admonished that you cannot achieve your best self alone.
